Gojumbos: Home of Men's Cross Country and Track & Field at Tufts University
1/24/2017 11:50 AM This Saturday, we headed up to Bowdoin for our one indoor meet outside of the Boston area until the National Championships. It was a smooth trip, with strong competition from the other four teams and another handful of DIII New England indoor qualifiers across all event groups. Resting many of our top athletes and not competing in all events, we placed 3rd as a team to MIT and Bowdoin and beat out Southern Maine and Merrimack.

The performance of the day may have been sophomore Hiroto Watanabe’s run in the 800m, as his 1:54.41 currently sits as the top time in the country for all of Division III. More impressive is that he led the race wire to wire, winning by over two seconds and knocking off 3 seconds from his indoor PR, his time now...
1/16/2017 3:06 PM This past Saturday, January 14th, marked the beginning of the 2017 indoor track and field competitions for the Jumbos, and it was also the first home meet for our newly resurfaced facility!

Overall, it was a strong start for the team. In the sprint events, there were several standout performances: senior Blake Coolidge recorded a personal best in the prelims of the 60 meter dash, and he tied the school record in the finals, running a time of 7.04. Freshman Robert Jones also competed in the 60 meter dash, running a #2 freshman all-time mark of 7.27, also good for the #6 all-time mark at Tufts. In the 200 meter dash, Coolidge and junior Andrew DiMaiti took first and second place with times of 22.42 and 22.91, respectively. That mark for Co...
3/8/2016 3:47 AM On Friday evening, several Jumbo athletes competed in the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet, held at home at the Gantcher Center. The meet was filled with season-best marks from freshmen and seniors alike.

Undoubtedly, the performance of the night came from the distance medley relay squad of first-year Colin Raposo (1200), and seniors Alex Kasemir (400), Alex Apostolidis (800), and Mitchell Black (1600). Their time of 10:02.51 qualified them to compete at NCAA’s next weekend in Grinnell, Iowa. Highlighted by Mitchell’s monster 4:07 anchor leg, Tufts now has the #7 fastest DMR in the country. The crew is very much looking forward to another shot at further improving upon their already stellar time.

Also at Friday’s meet, senior Brys...
3/4/2016 8:48 AM Many Jumbo athletes competed this weekend at the All-New England Championship Meet held at Boston University. The squad performed very well in this competitive meet which featured athletes from Divisions 1, 2, and 3.

Junior Tim Nichols had a particularly noteworthy performance in the 3000m as he ran 8:24.75 for eighth place overall. Tim’s time puts him #2 all-time among Jumbos in the event, and his flat-track converted time puts him #32 in the nation. However, Tim was not the only athlete to have a fantastic performance in the 3000m. First-year Christian Swenson broke the freshman record in the event, running 8:33.39 for fourteenth overall. After running such individually strong cross country seasons this past fall, both Tim and Chri...
2/24/2016 12:16 PM The Jumbos took a short trip across town to MIT this past weekend for the DIII New England Championships. With no Heptathletes in the event (the only empty event for the Jumbos this year), the meet got under way at 11:00 on Saturday with the Long Jump and weight throw. Senior Bryson Hoover Hankerson started the meet off with a bang, jumping an indoor PR of 6.75 Meters on his second attempt, launching himself into finals and eventually 4th place overall. His teammate Linus Gordon was not to be out-done in the second flight, jumping 6.85 on his very first attempt. Linus only took 3 attempts in the Long Jump, but each one was over half a foot farther than his previous PR. He would end up 2nd overall, besting his 5th place seed.

Bryson was ...
