Gojumbos: Home of Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field at Tufts University
10/12/2015 11:15 AM On Saturday the Jumbos competed in the Open New England Championships held at Franklin Park in Boston. The team ran exceptionally well all across the board. Junior Luke O’Connor led the way finishing sixth overall for the squad with a blazing time of 24:45.95. Not only was Luke the second fastest DIII finisher in his race, but his time was the fifth fastest ever for a Jumbo at Franklin Park. Luke earned himself a spot on the list ahead of XC All-American Matt Rand and 3-time XC All-American Jesse Faller. Luke’s classmate Tim Nichols was the teams second finisher, placing fifteenth overall in 25:11.67. For Luke and Tim to place in the top 15 is the best Jumbo duo since 2005 when our top finishers were 5th and 15th.

9/27/2015 7:59 PM A select group of Jumbos competed in the Purple Valley Classic this weekend. Resting our top 11 finishers from the Bates Shootout, we still placed 8th out of 22 teams and beat many full varsity squads including Coast Guard, Vassar, and DeSales who is currently ranked 8th in the Mideast Region. The meet, which was hosted by Williams College and held at the challenging Mt. Greylock course, proved to be the best effort of the season for those who competed.

The mid-distance squad started the day off with a bang by posting some impressive individual times in the 5k. Freshman Hiroto Watanabe was the team’s top finisher in the 5k with a time of 16:48.8 time for sixth place overall. Hiroto’s classmate Colin Raposo was not far behind, comin...
9/20/2015 7:59 PM The Jumbos opened up their 2015 campaign this past weekend as they competed in the Bates Invitational. The meet was held at Pineland Farms, Bates’ hilly home cross country course in New Gloucester, ME.

The squad had one of the most impressive season opening performances in recent memory. Junior Luke O’Connor won the race with a time of 25:39.8. Luke’s time earned him the #1 spot on the TUXC all-time list at Bates. He beat the former fastest Pineland time by 4 seconds, run by 3x All-American Jesse Faller at the NESCAC Championship in 2010. Now living in Maine with his wife, Faller was fittingly in attendance at the race this weekend and able to see Luke's performance. Luke did a fantastic job of pacing over the course of the 8k, wit...
5/26/2015 9:51 PM Mitchell Black won his second NCAA title in as many trips, adding an outdoor 800m DIII NCAA championship to his victory from indoor NCAAs in March. Held at St. Lawrence in Canton, NY, Mitchell won his prelim heat on Friday in 1:50.60 to automatically qualify for finals on Saturday.

As the defending indoor champion, the top returner from 2014, and the top seed heading in to the final, there was a bit of pressure for Mitchell to perform well and live up to the lofty expectations he has set for himself. The pace was soft for the first 400m, with no one seeming to want to lead in the windy and slightly cold conditions. Coming through the first 400m in 56.5, Mitchell tucked comfortably next to Cook-Gallardo of Carleton and let him pull the g...
5/26/2015 8:51 PM The Jumbos made the trip over to the Western half of Massachusetts for the final meet before NCAAs, the ECAC championships at Springfield College. With many athletes turning their attention to summer training (or graduation, for most seniors), the squad was light but still took some quality performances on the day.

Senior co-captains Marshall Pagano and Brian Williamson closed their careers at the meet, in the steeplechase for Marshall and tossing the hammer and shot put for Brian. While none of the marks were season or career performances, their efforts through the season, and the past four years, have certainly shaped and inspired the younger Jumbos that have followed.

Capping a tremendously successful junior year, Bryson Hoover-H...
