2/25/2015 3:38 PM This past weekend, the Jumbos competed in the Division III New England Championships held at Springfield College. The team posted some promising times as they competed in their first championship meet of the season.

The meet started off with Allan Yau and Alex Karys competing on Friday in the heptathlon. Over the two-day seven-event marathon, Yau notched numerous PRs or season bests to put together one of the strongest performances of the meet, finishing in 4th place with 4,236 points.

Junior Mitchell Black won the 1000m in 2:28.24, which broke the school record of 2:28.70 set by Billy Hale in 2010. Junior Veer Bhalla also came out victorious winning the 600m in 1:21.60. The 4x800 relay team of Black, Bhalla, and freshmen Tom DePa...
2/16/2015 8:45 PM This Saturday, the Jumbos braved the blizzard conditions as they traveled to Boston University to compete in the David Hemery Valentine Invitational. The squad was eager to perform on arguably the fastest indoor track in America.

The highlight of the day came from junior stud Mitchell Black in the 800m. In a field that included some of Division I’s best and several professionals, Black was able to break 1:50 for the first time in his career, as he placed fifth overall in 1:49.16. Black’s performance earned him the top time in the nation among Division III athletes this season so far. Additionally, Mitchell’s time is the fourth fasted recorded 800m time in Divison III history.

The meet was highlighted by the outstanding performances of the mid-distance squad. Junior Veer Bhalla won the 800 in 1:53.90 which now ranks him nationally in the top 10 for all DIII runners in that event. Though Bhalla bested the field, he looks forward to even improving on that time further in hopes of qualifying for DIII Indoor National Championships. Also in the 800, junior Alex “Greece” Apostolides broke the 2 minute barrier for the first time this season as he ran a 1:58.66. Freshman Chris Gregory also had a great day as he ran the 600m in...

The team posted some great results both at the home and at BU, with PRs continuing to fall across multiple event groups.

On the distance side, the 3000m proved to be one of the highlights of the day. Lead by senior James Traester (8:40.96), three Jumbos (Marshall Pagano, Luke O’Connor, and Traester) qualified for the Indoor DIII New England championship in the 3K and all posted flat-track PRs. The 5000m was also an exciting race. Sophomore Tim Nichols ran a PR (14:57) in that event as he finally dipped under the 15 minu...
