Gojumbos: Home of Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field at Tufts University
2/3/2016 9:49 AM This weekend the squad competed in their second home contest of the season as the team hosted the 2016 Tufts Stampede. The meet was filled with some fantastic performances from athletes in every event group.

There were a plethora of Jumbos who earned individual victories in their respective events. Senior Veer Bhalla won the 600m with a facility-record time of 1:20.29. Although Veer posted the fastest 600m time ever at Gantcher, he was just 0.08 seconds off the school record of 1:20.21 set by classmate Mitchell Black last year. Senior Francis Goins got the W in the 400 in a time of 50.37 seconds, and he ran a commendable second place in the 200 in 22.77 seconds. Additionally, freshman Hiroto “Oats” Watanabe finished first in the 800m...
1/25/2016 8:45 AM This weekend the Jumbos competed at the Bowdoin Invitation held at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. The squad posted some impressive times and marks considering it was only the team’s second meet of the indoor season.

Senior tri-captain and Brunswick native Mitchell Black broke his own school record in the 1000m with a time of 2:27.92. His previous record of 2:28.24 was set last year.

Mitch’s classmate and fellow tri-captain Atticus Swett also had a fantastic day in the circle. Atticus notched wins in both the shot put and the weight throw with tosses of 15.22m and 15.23m, respectively.

The freshman class continued to show their tremendous talent as first-year Benji Wallace cleared 14' 1 ¼” in the pole vault while his cl...
1/21/2016 9:58 PM The Jumbos opened up the 2016 indoor season this past Saturday as they competed at the first of several Tufts Invites. The meet, which was held at home at the Gantcher Indoor Track, was filled with some fantastic early season performances. Additionally, the meet was the first under new head coach Joel Williams.

One major highlight was the performance of the freshman class as a whole. As arguably one of the most talented incoming recruiting class in TUXC/TUTF history, members of the first-year crew posted some stellar marks in their indoor debuts. Nico Agosti and Josh Etkind each placed first in their respective events as Nico ran 52.52 in the 400 and Josh jumped 44'0 1/2" in the triple jump to go along with a stellar time of 8.84 in th...
11/15/2015 8:29 PM This weekend the Jumbos competed at the DIII Regional Championship held at Harkness Memorial State Park in Waterford, CT. The squad ran undoubtably their best race of the season from top to bottom. The team’s stellar performance earned them a third place finish and an at-large bid to DIII Nationals.

Junior Luke O’Connor continued his phenomenal season finishing third overall individually with a time of 24:43. He finished less than four seconds behind the winner, Mohamed Hussein from Amherst. Junior Tim Nichols was close behind finishing sixth overall in 24:55. Both Luke and Tim spent a good amount of time leading the race. They did a fantastic job of getting into a rhythm and keeping the pace honest over the course of the 8k. The ju...
11/9/2015 12:25 PM On Saturday a select group of Jumbos competed at the ECAC Championships held at the challenging course at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

The top finisher for the Jumbos was freshman Dylan Jones. Dylan was seventh overall in a time of 26:59. Dylan’s classmate Matt McDermott finished in 27:08 for fourteenth place. Both Dylan and Matt earned All-ECAC honors, and they were the first rookie pair to finish within the top 15 in over ten years. The last time we had two All-ECAC Jumbo freshmen was in 2003 when Justin Chung, Peter Orth, and Daniel Jones earned 10th, 11th, and 15th respectively. Dylan's seventh place finish was the highest by a Jumbo rookie in online record and the best in at least 15 years. Aside fro...
