Gojumbos: Home of Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field at Tufts University
5/26/2015 9:51 PM Mitchell Black won his second NCAA title in as many trips, adding an outdoor 800m DIII NCAA championship to his victory from indoor NCAAs in March. Held at St. Lawrence in Canton, NY, Mitchell won his prelim heat on Friday in 1:50.60 to automatically qualify for finals on Saturday.

As the defending indoor champion, the top returner from 2014, and the top seed heading in to the final, there was a bit of pressure for Mitchell to perform well and live up to the lofty expectations he has set for himself. The pace was soft for the first 400m, with no one seeming to want to lead in the windy and slightly cold conditions. Coming through the first 400m in 56.5, Mitchell tucked comfortably next to Cook-Gallardo of Carleton and let him pull the g...
5/26/2015 8:51 PM The Jumbos made the trip over to the Western half of Massachusetts for the final meet before NCAAs, the ECAC championships at Springfield College. With many athletes turning their attention to summer training (or graduation, for most seniors), the squad was light but still took some quality performances on the day.

Senior co-captains Marshall Pagano and Brian Williamson closed their careers at the meet, in the steeplechase for Marshall and tossing the hammer and shot put for Brian. While none of the marks were season or career performances, their efforts through the season, and the past four years, have certainly shaped and inspired the younger Jumbos that have followed.

Capping a tremendously successful junior year, Bryson Hoover-H...
5/26/2015 12:09 PM The Jumbos returned to cross-town rival MIT for the Open New England Championships, where athletes compete from DI, DII, and DIII schools across the region. Junior Mitchell Black reset his school record in the 800m (1:49.83), and Sophomore Luke O'Connor continued his winning ways in the Steeplechase, as those two individual victories led the way for Tufts to defeat MIT and place seventh overall, second to only Williams among all DIII schools.

O'Connor crossed the line in 9:11.96, a tenth ahead of second place and moving him closer to the upper echelon of all-time Jumbo distance hurdlers. Freshman Ty Enos joined him in winning his own heat, running 9:33.08 to distance himself by 7 seconds from the next competitor and launch into the top ...
5/4/2015 2:08 PM The Jumbos made the short trip to MIT this weekend for the DIII New England Championships. With many athletes resting after NESCACs, the squad was smaller but still left with many All-Region performances.

The meet started off with the decathletes competing over two days in their ten events, with both senior Allan Yau and freshman Peter Clark notching lifetime bests for the multi competition. Yau earned All-New England honors with his eighth-place finish, and Clark impressively PR'ed in his first-ever championship multi meet. Senior Alex Karys had a tough high jump, but will be back in action the following week at the Open New England Championship.

Fridays PRs kept coming in the distance and jumps group, as junior Bryson Hoover-Hanke...
4/27/2015 10:45 PM The Jumbos won their third straight NESCAC Championship this weekend, the longest streak for any program aside from host Williams College. In fact program besides Tufts and Williams has even won three NESCAC track titles EVER let alone three in a row. The team traveled to Williamstown and edged out the home team for the victory on Saturday. Though the squad came into the meet as the considerable underdog, the Jumbos performed incredibly well in every event group to bring home the threepeat.

On the track side, the event that got the momentum going for the Jumbos was the 3000m steeplechase, where the team went 1-2-5 and scored a total of 22 points. Sophomore Luke O’Connor won the race with a time of 9:24.18. Senior co-captain Marshal...
