Gojumbos: Home of Men’s Cross Country and Track & Field at Tufts University
1/27/2015 9:35 PM This past weekend, the Jumbos braced the snow as they traveled up to Brunswick, Maine to compete in the Bowdoin Invitational hosted by Bowdoin College. Coming off of a solid week of mileage and workouts, the team was anxious to give it their all and perform well at their first away meet of the season. There were a number of impressive performances throughout the day.

On the distance side, sophomore Luke O’Connor notched the win in the mile, running a 4:25.70. In the 3000m, sophomore Tim Nichols and senior Nick Guarnaccia went 2-3, running 8:41 and 8:53 respectively. Freshman John Greenberg and senior Colin McCrory also dipped under 9 minutes in their indoor 3k debuts as they both came in at 8:59.

The mid-distance runners posted s...
1/19/2015 1:38 PM The Tufts Men’s Track and Field team opened up their indoor season this past weekend as they competed at home in the Gantcher Center for Tufts Invite #1. There were a lot of notable performances among the different event groups.

Freshman Andrew DiMati won the 400m in a 50.79, while junior Francis Goins came in third with a 51.11. Junior Veer Bhalla won the 600m in 1:22.77, narrowly missing the 600m Gantcher Center record. Also in the 600m, freshman PD McCawley ran a 1:25.14 to win his heat in the 600m. Junior Mitchell Black inched into the Tufts all-time top 10 list in winning the 1000m running a 2:30.28, while teammate Alex “Greece” Apostolides ran a 2:36.68 for eighth.

In the mile, sophomore James Traester came in fourth with...
12/2/2014 12:36 PM For the 4th consecutive year, 8 jumbos traveled to the Midwest to compete in the NCAA Division III Cross Country Nationals. Coming in as the last team in the New England region and the 25th ranked team nationally, outside expectations were not particularly high for the team. The team ran well and outplaced their “seed” to finish 22nd, beating at least one team from six other regions.

The Jumbos’ nationals race was highlighted by Senior co-captain Nick Guarnaccia, who broke into the top 100 in the race. Following a series of disappointing races at NESCACs and Regionals, Nick put himself out there and found the strength he was searching for all season, beating over 15 runners who he lost to one week before and improving by 55 places...
11/18/2014 2:59 PM 77 Crazy Jumbos from the Tufts Track and Field, Cross Country, and Crew teams made the long drive out to Williams College this past Saturday to watch their friends and teammates compete in the New England DIII Regional Championships. The XC men fed off of their support and fought to a 6th place finish in what would seem to be the strongest region in the country, earning themselves an at-large bid into the DIII National Championships next weekend in Mason, OH.

It was a calm but icy cold day, and the frozen ground made for firm and fast conditions. The race got off to a fast start, but sophomore duo of Luke O’Connor and Tim Nichols established themselves in the front pack early on. Senior Marshall Pagano took an unfortunate fall within t...
11/11/2014 7:33 PM This past Saturday, the Jumbos traveled westward to Stanley Park course for the ECAC Championships hosted by Westfield State. While the top 7 runners rested for next week’s NCAA Regional Championship, the second 7 toed the line to battle with teams from around the east coast. Facing a mixture of varsity and sub-varsity teams, Tufts ran their way to an impressive 2nd place team finish, falling only to NESCAC foe Williams College.

Junior Michael Curley set an aggressive tone early in the race, leading the entire 300 runner field through the first 3 miles. The fast pace that he established certainly played a role in the slew of PRs that were run. As the race wound back into the second woods loop, Tufts was well established at the front of...
