This past weekend, the Jumbos braced the snow as they traveled up to Brunswick, Maine to compete in the Bowdoin Invitational hosted by Bowdoin College. Coming off of a solid week of mileage and workouts, the team was anxious to give it their all and perform well at their first away meet of the season. There were a number of impressive performances throughout the day.

On the distance side, sophomore Luke O’Connor notched the win in the mile, running a 4:25.70. In the 3000m, sophomore Tim Nichols and senior Nick Guarnaccia went 2-3, running 8:41 and 8:53 respectively. Freshman John Greenberg and senior Colin McCrory also dipped under 9 minutes in their indoor 3k debuts as they both came in at 8:59.

The mid-distance runners posted some very nice times as well. Leading the charge for the mid-d squad was junior Mitchell Black who won the 600m with a time 1:20.21, breaking the school record of 1:20.46. Black even hopes to improve on that record-setting performance in the weeks to come. Junior Veer Bhalla secured the victory in the 1000m running 2:31.76.

The sprinters also helped to secure points for the Jumbos. Junior Bryson Hoover Hankerson had a great day as he placed fourth in the 60m with a time of 7.16. Nick Usoff also performed well coming in third in the 400m in 51.52.

The jumpers posted some impressive marks as well. Junior Tom Wang cleared 6' 0” in the high jump, placing third and freshman Linus Gordon came in fourth in the long jump with a jump of 6.38 m.

In the circle, senior Brian Williamson scored second in the shot put and third in the weight throw. Sophomore Ife Adebayo had one of the most rememberable performances of the day as he threw a huge PR of 15.09 m in the weight throw, for fifth place in the event.

The team won the meet by a sizable margin tallying 141 points. The Jumbos look forward to improving on this past weeks performances and keeping the momentum going. Up next, the squad will be at its second home meet of the season next week as they will compete at the Tufts Stampede held at the Gantcher Center.
