This past Friday, several Jumbo athletes competed in the Tufts Final Qualifying Meet. The meet was highlighted by the performance of junior stud Veer Bhalla as he ran 1:53.01 in the 800 meter run. This performance put him #7 in the nation for the event. With his time, he helped punch his ticket to the DIII Indoor National Championships held this weekend in Winston-Salem, NC. Bhalla will square off against teammate and close friend Mitchell Black at DIII’s as Black has already qualified in the 800 and will be racing in the event this weekend.

A few other athletes had some outstanding personal bests. In the 3000m, sophomore Luke O’Connor ran a lifetime PR of 8:31.13, joining junior James Traester (who PR'd in the event last week) as one of the fastest ten Jumbos all time in the 3K. His classmate Pietro Possenti cleared 13'2 1/4” for the first time in his Tufts career, placing him in the upper echelon of NESCAC pole vaulters moving into the outdoor season.

Some other notable performances came from the freshman class. Ty Enos ran a season best time of 4:20.01 in the mile and Stefan Duvivier cleared 6’6’’ in the high jump in his indoor debut, both now amongst the best Jumbo freshmen ever in those respective events.

The Jumbos are eager to travel to North Carolina this weekend to compete at Indoor NCAAs. Bhalla and Black will be accompanied by a 4x400 relay team as well. After a long indoor season, the squad is anticipating some impressive times and a strong close to a successful winter. #JUMBOPRIDE
