Several Jumbos competed in the DIII Indoor National Championships held at the JDL Fast Track in Winston-Salem, NC. The representatives from Tufts at Nationals were juniors Mitchell Black, Veer Bhalla, Alex Kasemir and Francis Goins along with freshman Andrew DiMaiti.
Both Black had Bhalla ran the 800m. Mitchell had undoubtedly the highlight of the day as he won the event in 1:51.94. With his victory, he became the first Tufts track athlete to win Nationals since Fred Jones placed first in the triple jump in 2006! Bhalla also had a solid performance, placing 11th overall.
Kasemir, Goins, DiMaiti, and Black also competed in the 4x400m. Their time of 3:18.80, earned them an 8th place finish overall, and All-American status. The points earned by Mitch’s 800 victory and the 4x4 finish were enough to earn the Jumbos a 15th place team finish.
The strong performances by Tufts athletes at Nationals were a perfect end to an impressive season. Though the attention will now shift to outdoor track, there is no denying that this was one of the most memorable Indoor National Championships in Tufts history.
