This weekend the Jumbos competed at the Bowdoin Invitation held at Bowdoin College in Brunswick, ME. The squad posted some impressive times and marks considering it was only the team’s second meet of the indoor season.

Senior tri-captain and Brunswick native Mitchell Black broke his own school record in the 1000m with a time of 2:27.92. His previous record of 2:28.24 was set last year.

Mitch’s classmate and fellow tri-captain Atticus Swett also had a fantastic day in the circle. Atticus notched wins in both the shot put and the weight throw with tosses of 15.22m and 15.23m, respectively.

The freshman class continued to show their tremendous talent as first-year Benji Wallace cleared 14' 1 ¼” in the pole vault while his classmate Charlie Pennington cleared 6' 2" in the high jump. Benji and Charlie placed second and fifth in their respective events. Both are Division III New England qualifying marks.

However, the highlight among the rookie bunch was the performance of Josh Etkind who got the freshman record in the 60 hurdles with a time of 8.55. Additionally, that time puts Josh second all-time among any Jumbo ever in that event.

Junior Tim Nichols and sophomore Drew DiMaiti both ran some nationally-ranked marks. Drew’s time of 50.18 in the 400 puts him #11 in the US among DIII competitors in that event, and Tim Nichols' time of 8:34.79 puts him #13. With Drew and Tim's performance, just two weeks in the team now has qualifiers in every jump, throw, and sprint. With multiple All-Americans set to compete in the 800m, Mile, and 5K over the next two weeks, we are well set up to have qualifiers in every individual event.

All in all, the Jumbos had some great early-season performances. Next weekend the team will send a small squad to compete at Boston University with the majority of the group at home for our annual Stampede and Multi. Go Jumbos.
