Mid-Distance

To move up from a pure quarter-miler to the middle distance events is doubtless one of the more difficult event transitions to make in track and field. During his four years as a Jumbo, Scott Brinkman did it better than anyone could have expected. Though he may claim still to be a "long sprinter" (erroneously citing the speed suit he runs the 1000m in as proof), Brink's PRs attest not only to his mid-D talent but also litter both the indoor and outdoor Tufts Top-10 lists. Despite battling injury during several seasons, his accomplishments are numerous: number 9 all-time at 800m indoors, fifth on the school 600m list, and with the second-fastest 500m mark in school history, Scott also ran the 400m on the then-school record DMR that was the first sub-10 in Tufts history and claimed 3rd at Nationals. An All-American with PRs of 1:05.71, 1:22.77, and 1:56.65 (plus his sub-5 minute mile from 8th grade), Brink was an exemplar of the work ethic required to come back from injury and succeed. He lived by a credo of making the most of his limited time in Brown and Blue, and inspired his teammates to do the same.
