Gojumbos: Home of Men's Cross Country and Track & Field at Tufts University

World class education, check.

Engaging campus and unique community, all set.

Incredible city at your fingertips, we’ve got that too.

Academic challenges, the opportunity to contribute athletically, a brotherhood of loyal teammates, without a doubt.

The desire to be pushed. The dedication to be a part of something larger than yourself. The perseverance to push through the rough patches. That’s up to you.

These are just a few of the characteristics of the Tufts Track & Field and Cross Country programs. With the School of Engineering and the College of Arts and Sciences, Tufts students benefit from an amazingly accomplished and always accessible faculty. The school’s proximity to Boston affords Tufts students a link to a city that is bursting with culture, nightlife, and a rich sports history. At the same time, you get to return home to a campus that is welcoming in size and removed from the hustle and bustle.

Athletically, the Tufts XC Squad is consistently one of the top teams in New England. For its 2010 campaign Tufts returns some of the top athletes in the region, including All-Region and All-NESCAC runners Tim Nichols ’17 and Luke O'Connor ’17. Perenially represented at the National Championships, TUXC has competed at Nationals in every year since 1995.

Holding true to tradition, more than 50 "crazies" drove cross-country to support their teammate in grand fashion again last year (read more about the "crazies" and their roadtrips in the traditions section.) Without at doubt, Tufts boasts some of the most energized, dedicated, and possibly lunatic fans in the nation.

Not to be outshone, the TU Track & Field team also contends on an elite level. As one of New England’s best teams year in and year out, the Jumbos battled to a 2nd place finish at the 2010 NESCAC Championships and look to improve on that next season. (See Tufts school records and Top 10 lists here).

Returning for the 2016 T&F campaign are numerous national and regional caliber athletes. Mitchell Black '16 is the defending NCAA champion in both the indoor and outdoor 800m run. Joining him are All-Americans Veer Bhalla (800m), Drew DiMaiti (4x4), Francis Goins (4x4), and Alex Kasemir (4x4). They also have All-Region athletes returning in every event group. It’s guaranteed to be an exciting year for the Jumbos.

The programs at Tufts compete primarily in the Division III New England Small College Athletic Conference (NESCAC). NESCAC is one of the most academically selective conferences in the nation in addition to being the most competitive athletically. The Tufts squads have a strong tradition of excellence in academics as well as athletics. Adding to the national champions and All Americans, the Jumbos have posted over 50 Academic All Americans in the last 5 years.

Great facilities, great competition, and a challenging, nurturing environment help make being a student athlete at Tufts an unparalleled experience. For more information, feel free to reach out to me. I welcome your call.
