- Ethan came to Tufts in 2002 as an assistant to coach Connie Putnam. Before coming to The Hill, Ethan was a standout at Middlebury College, where he competed in the 55m high hurdles, 110m high hurdles, 100m, 200m, 400m, 4x100m, 4x400m, long jump, and triple jump. He holds school records in the 55m and 110m hurdles, and was All American in each. Ethan holds degrees in Mathematics and Chemistry from Middlebury, as well as an M.A. in Educational Studies from Tufts. In 2005, Ethan took over the helm of the Men's Cross Country/Track and Field team here at Tufts. In his first year as a head coach, the Jumbos finished 5th in the nation for the cross country season. Tufts would go on to set a school record for points scored at the New England Indoor Championships and national qualifiers. As a result, Ethan was voted NESCAC Coach of the Year for both cross country and track & field. His first year was capped off as Fred Jones claimed the national title in the Triple Jump with a school record leap of 49-7. Since that first season the Jumbos have totaled 10 school records under Barron. Now entering his fourth year, the program has continued its progression each year. In just three short years, the Jumbos have added a NESCAC and New England title to their accolades. Over the past three years, Ethan and his staff have earned seven Coaching Staff of the Year Awards. When asked about his effectiveness as a head coach, Ethan can be consistently heard saying "I am only as strong as those that surround me, but with these assistants I feel invincible." Ethan is a native of Rutland, VT and now resides in Medford. You can email Ethan at ethan.barron@tufts.edu.
