Tufts 3rd as Top NE Teams Battle at Purple Valley

With beautiful weather, a well groomed course, and six of the top eight ranked teams in New England, the Jumbo cross country squad toed the line at the Purple Valley Classic hosted by Williams College looking for a solid early season effort. Two hours later, they reboarded the bus for Medford having accomplished exactly that. A 6th place finish for sophomore Matt Rand and an overall 3rd place spot for the team highlighted the day for the TUXC men.

Two words came to mind as you stood there watching the TUXC harriers power through 8k course: young and deep. Nine of the Jumbo top 10 were either freshmen or sophomores this weekend. Most of this onslaught of youth at the front was due to the hunger and dedication of the freshman and sophomore classes. Yet it was also increased by a number of upperclassmen cheering from the sideline, including the #3, 4, and 5 finishers for the Jumbos at last year
