Less than seven days after the DIII New England Championships wrapped up, the 2011 Tufts Indoor Track squad headed across town to Boston University for the Open New England Championships. The Open New England Championships is a unique meet that pits the best of all divisions, I, II, and III, against one another. New England is the only region in the country with a championship meet of this type. The Jumbos went in simply looking to compete against some of the best competition in New England. And compete they did. The squad unveiled some of their new uniforms and responded with a slew of lifetime and season best performances.

Friday began with a quartet of field event competitors for the Jumbos. Pole vaulters Sam Read and Brad Nakanishi narrowly missed scoring when they each narrowly missed their attempts at 15-1. The two tied for 10th overall with their clean vaults over 14-7.25. Curtis Yancy struggled to find his rhythm in his first showing at the Open New England Championships fouling two solid throws in the 35# weight throw. His only measured mark was good enough for 27th place overall. Rounding out the quartet was sophomore Gbola Ajayi who advanced to finals in both the long jump and triple jump. Ajayi PRed in both events with his leaps of 21-10.75 and 45-7.75 respectively. Ajayi
