The Jumbos traveled to Amherst, MA last week for the NESCAC Championships. Swampy course conditions added an unexpected variable to the mix. Still, the squad saw some breakout performances. As a team, the Jumbos placed 5th in the conference and maintained their top 25 national standing.
Matt Rand (’13) continued his impressive season, coming in first for the team and placing 3rd overall.

But the race of the day came from Brian McLaughlin (’14). Making his debut on the team’s top 5, McLaughlin ran 26:46 and placed 20th overall. After running most of the season’s workouts alone due to a demanding music/engineering double major, the sophomore solidified his place as one of the team’s most talented runners. Liam Cassidy (’14) ran 26:50 and placed 3rd for the Jumbos. Kyle Marks (’14) followed close on his heels in 26:52, and Andrew Shapero (’14) placed fifth for the team, rounding out the scoring positions.

The Jumbo’s deep roster helps them as they head into the ECAC championship. The developmental race will showcase some of the squad’s rising stars. The JV looks to set the tone for the championship portion of the season as the Varsity heads for the NCAA DIII New England Regional Championship on Nov 12th.
