The Jumbos second home meet of the year got started on Friday night with the Tufts Multi. With lifetime PRs in several events, senior Mike Blair took the top spot in a new best of 4637. Junior Andrew Osborne backed him up in fifth with 3985 points, giving him a good chance to qualify for the New England Championships. Just back of Ozzie were sophomore Allan Yau (3584) and frosh Alex Karys (3456), who will be on the bubble to make the top 12 in the region.

On Saturday, PRs continued to fall. Senior Vinnie Lee and frosh Bryson Hoover-Hankerson got under 7.40 in the 60m, and senior Kayin Cherry lowered his best to 24.58 in the 200m. The 400m saw Larry Xia return to competition with a solid 55.73—a mark he’ll surely improve on in the months to come. Freshman Alex Apostolides set a college PR of 1:26.88 in the 600m, but immediately knew he had a couple more seconds in the tank if he went out more aggressively.

In the distances, junior Liam Cassidy got back on the track in the 3000m with a fantastic season opener of 8:44.03. After building back through the fall this is a clear testament of his hard work getting healthy and fit. Sophomore Greg Hardy also broke out in the 5000m with his 15:46.14. These two Jumbos exemplify as well as anyone the work ethic that makes Tufts great.

Senior captain Brad Nakanishi grabbed another win the vault, this time getting over 4.60m (15-01.00). Frosh Bryson Hoover-Hankerson put up yet another PR in the long, just centimeters away from 21 feet at 6.38m. The throwers continued to pull more than their weight with two runner-up spots: Brian Williamson (15.80m) in the shot and Curtis Yancy (17.79m) in the weight.

The meet wrapped with the 4x800m, where two freshmen and two sophomores stepped up to post an 8:01.55. Frosh Veer Bhalla had the most impressive leg as he made MIT 1:52 800m runner Patrick Marx work very hard to beat him. Next week, the Jumbos return to BU for the Valentine Invitational.
