Nakanishi, Williamson Lead with Wins at Lowell

The Jumbos notched two wins and more than 10 top-five finishes at the George Davis Invitational at UMass Lowell on Saturday.

One such victory came from senior captain Brad Nakanishi, who cleared 14'11" (4.55m) in the pole vault. Sophomore Brian Williamson also grabbed the win in the shot put with a heave of 48'11 ½" (14.92m).

In the javelin, junior Matt Johnson took second with a throw of 175'8" (53.55m). Senior captain Curtis Yancy placed third in the discus with a heave of 141'0" (42.98m) and threw the hammer 168'10" (51.46m) for fourth. Yancy's classmate Gbola Ajayi leaped 21'5 ¼" (6.53m) in the long jump to take fifth.

On the track, senior Sam Haney closed hard after a slow first mile to finish third in the 5000m in 15:16.90. He was followed by sophomore Marshall Pagano, fifth in 15:29.01.

Senior Vinnie Lee and juniors Liam Cassidy and Graham Beutler also finished in the top five for the Jumbos. Lee placed 5th in the 200m in 23.33, while Cassidy ran 9:30.25 in the two-mile, also for finish 5th. In the 100m, junior Graham Beutler clocked a time of 11.28 to finish fourth.

Next weekend, the Jumbos travel to Brown University's Springtime Invitational, looking to improve on these early season marks.
