For the first time in recent history, the Jumbos traveled south to Providence, RI, to square off against strong competition from all divisions at the Brown Invite.

In the throws, sophomore Brian Williamson got out over 50' in the shot with his toss of 15.34m, good enough for fifth, and 49.34m in the hammer. Senior captain Curtis Yancy added marks of 44.50m and 49.17m in the discus and hammer, respectively. The throws squad has been making steady gains throughout the year and will be a crucial component of the Jumbos' NESCAC lineup. Senior Gbola Ajayi put up the lone victory for Jumbos, winning the triple jump with a mark of 14.27m.

On the track, senior Vinnie Lee and junior Daniel Lange Vagle ran 23.08 and 23.11, respectively, in a windy 200m. Junior Graham Beutler got up for fourth overall with his 49.74 in the 400m and frosh Veer Bhalla set a collegiate best in the 800m with an eighth-place time of 1:55.05. Junior miler Jamie Norton backed him up with a big PR of his own in 1:55.27.

The mile saw senior Kyle Marks move down and dip under the 4:20 barrier at 4:19.62, which bodes well for his return to the 5k next weekend. Classmate Sam Haney was close behind in 4:21.05. Sophomore Joseph St. Pierre (4:27.44) and first-year James Traester (4:27.83) continued to battle. Sophomores Nick Guarnaccia and Joe Poupard had decent debuts in the 3000m Steeplechase at 10:12.73 and 10:20.25.

In the 5000m, juniors Andrew Shapero (15:10.29) and Brian McLaughlin (15:23.67) added a New England qualifier to their resume for the year, with Sam Garfield and Colin McCrory just missing at 15:23 and 15:32. To close things out, the 4x400m relay put up a season-best 3:18.91 with Beutler splitting under 48.

Next week, a small squad will return to Princeton, NJ, for the Larry Ellis invite while the bulk of the team competes at MIT.
