On Saturday a select group of Jumbos competed at the ECAC Championships held at the challenging course at Mt. Greylock High School in Williamstown, Massachusetts.

The top finisher for the Jumbos was freshman Dylan Jones. Dylan was seventh overall in a time of 26:59. Dylan’s classmate Matt McDermott finished in 27:08 for fourteenth place. Both Dylan and Matt earned All-ECAC honors, and they were the first rookie pair to finish within the top 15 in over ten years. The last time we had two All-ECAC Jumbo freshmen was in 2003 when Justin Chung, Peter Orth, and Daniel Jones earned 10th, 11th, and 15th respectively. Dylan's seventh place finish was the highest by a Jumbo rookie in online record and the best in at least 15 years. Aside from Dylan, no other freshman placed better than 10th at ECAC’s between 1999 and 2014. After current sophomore Ty Enos' time from Regionals in 2014, Dylan and Matt also had the second and fourth fastest times ran by a Jumbo freshman at Mt. Greylock in the past fifteen years.

Finishing third and fourth for the Jumbos was the sophomore duo of Sam Little and John Greenberg. Sam ran 27:23 for twenty-third overall and John finished in 27:55 for forty-sixth, respectively. This was the first time that either Sam or John had scored in a championship meet. This race allowed both of them to gain valuable experience heading in to the upcoming track season. First-years James Gregoire and Tom Doyle were the teams fifth and sixth place finishers. James and Tom finished together placing sixty-fourth and sixty-fifth overall and both running 28:17.

Senior Nick Adams was the seventh man for the Jumbos in his final cross country meet of his Tufts career. Nick finished in 28:46 for eighty-third overall. After struggling with various injuries throughout his last four years, Nick ran a gutsy race in his first ever championship race.

Ultimately, the placed fifth overall. Next weekend, the varsity squad will compete at Regionals held at Connecticut College. We are ready and excited to perform well at this meet, just as we have done in years past.
