The Jumbos hosted their second invitational of the 2006 season and came away with a very close victory. The meet featured competition from Bates College, SUNY Plattsburgh and Trinity College. Tufts tallied 146.5 points while Bates was next with 142.

As usual, the distance crew put in solid performances. In the mile run, five Jumbos placed in the top seven. Senior co-captain Matt Lacey won the race, while Matt Fortin finished second. In the 800, Dan Sullivan dipped under two minutes for a good early season time.

There were a number of highlights coming from the Tufts sprinters. Junior LeQuan Hunter, running the 55 meters for the first time in years, won his heat and qualified for finals. Freshman Will Forde, and Senior Trevor Williams ran well in the 200, finishing third and fourth respectively. Dustin Virgilio used a kick late in the 400 meters to capture first place. Junior David McCleary ran near his personal best in the 55 Hurdles to place third.

A strong effort from Fred Jones highlighted the field events as he won both the long and triple jumps. Jones and the rest of the triple jumpers combined for 23 points. Jason Galvin threw a lifetime best of 44-11.50 in the shot put.

The Jumbos will be running at two meets next weekend. A select few with run at Boston University's Terrier Invite on Friday, while the rest of the team will compete in a six team meet at Bowdoin College the next day.
