Jumbos Run to a Second Place Finish at Bowdoin

The Jumbos had a great showing at Bowdoin on Saturday. With Competitors like Springfield College and MIT in attendance the meet was guaranteed to hold tough competition. Early in the day however the meet was thrown off track as a small fire in the building that forced all the competitors and spectators outside for a two hour duration. Dispite the fire alarm the day was full of personal records all over the team for the Jumbos

Regardless of distractions the sprints team stepped up with track veteran Mickey Ferri taking third in the 55m dash and 5th in the 200m dash. Freshman standout Will Forde was right with him though posting his own 5th in the 55m dash and a second place finish in the 200. Both Will and Mickey ran personal bests in the 50m, and Will posted another PR in the 200m. Fred Jones also ran a PR in the 55m with a time of 6.95 seconds.

Dustin Virgilio beat his competition at the line in the 400 with a first place finish of 51.98 seconds, landing him a new personal record. Another outstanding performance came from Marcelo Norsworthy pwho usually runs longer distance came down to run the 600m and took second place with a PR of 1:24.66

Nate Clevland edged out his competition in the 800m to take first place with a time of 1:59.10. Not to be outshined Pat Mahoney glided into a first place finish in the 1000m run with a Big PR time of 2:31.83

With Lacey, Kantos, and Kennedy recovering from their big race at BU Dave Sorenson, Chad Uy and Steve Leibowitz stepped up in the 5k. All three ran Personal records. Sorenson shed nearly 20 seoconds with his 15:37 Chad Posted a time of 15:50 and Steve ran 17:47.

The 55m hurdlers showed their usual quality with a third place finish by Jamil Ludd and a fifth by Dave McCleary. McCleary also ran a personal best in the 400m run with a time of 53.54 seconds.

The high jump was ruled by Tufts as Jeremy Arak led Dan Marcy, James Bradley and Nate Scott to First, Second, Third and Fifth place finishes. The Triple jump was also a highlight of the field events as Fred Jones leapt to a first place finish with 14.01m. He was closely followed by Dan Marcy who put a season best down with a jump of 13.34m.

The throwers did not dissapoint either. Jason Galvin and Joe Brown both put their ways to new PRs. Jason threw the shot put 14.07m and Joe 11.68m. Joe also had a huge day in the weight throw shattering his old Personal Best by nearly a meter with a throw of 13.05 meters.
