The 2006 Snowflake classic was just the second outdoor meet hosted by Tufts University in over five years. The day saw a few weather patterns, but thankfully no snow.

Another weather factor was the stiff headwind that the athletes had to battle throughout the day. The high winds account for the 100m times being slow across the board. The sprinters saw some great performances in the 400. Senior Captain Trevor Williams led the Tufts effort with a 50.75. He was followed by freshman James Bradley who smashed his PR in running 51.24. The sprinters eagerly await a day with calmer winds.

The mid distance runners were highlighted by Dan Sullivan. Dan was one of two Jumbos to take home an individual victory for the day. He negative split his 800 with good kick to take the win 1:58. Kyle Doran and Nate Cleveland were not too far behind, both finishing in 2:01. Usually an 800 runner, Pat Mahoney took to the line in the 1500. He ran a strong race to finish fourth.

Tufts had a promising day in the relays. The Jumbos won the 400 meter relay with a great of early season time of 43.3. However, the relay squad was disqualified for blatantly violating the uniform rule. The 1600 meter relay was also won by Tufts. Anchor Pat Mahoney turned it on just in time to hold off Bates.

There were a number of impressive performances in the field events. Jeremy Arak placed 2nd in the high jump by clearing 6'4". Sophomore Nate Scott had a good day in the long jump. He set a new personal best by an inch to take fourth. Tim Bassell equaled his indoor PR with a vault of 13 feet. Jason Galvin led the throwers as he earned the victory in the Hammer Throw. Galvin hit the NCAA Provo mark with his winning throw.

The Jumbos hope for better weather when they return to action next weekend at the Hillside Relays.
